I was fortunate enough to see Dianne Reeves with pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Reginald Veal, and drummer Terreon Gully in Denver yesterday. What a show! My favorite part of the night was a duet between Romero & Dianne. They did Corcovado by Jobim, and it was beautiful. I left with so many ideas to try out on guitar. This was one of the best shows that I have seen in a long time, I wish I had some video! They also did a version of Little Drummer Boy, a tune I usually don’t like, but I loved it when they did it. Wayne Shorter’s Infant Eyes was done, and I think I am going to try to get Stacey to learn that one. It could be a very cool duet.
Anyway, what a concert. I can’t recommend her enough, she is a master performer. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen someone with such a powerful stage presence. That being said, I will be digging into Romero’s discography quite heavily over the next few weeks.
